I’ve been hunting and pecking for nuggets of info for Battlefield 2 and haven’t found a single source that has everything. So I thought I’d create a quick little repository of all the info I’ve found thus far.
Note: I will continually update this page as I come across more information so bookmark it and visit often.

BF2s.com
This site goes way beyond any others in regards to stats. It has a super clean design using some fancy css layout that allows for individual column sorting within tables. You do a head to head comparison with another player. And they provide the html to create the fancy image insertion you see below.

Best First Weapon to Unlock
After reading posts on many forums, the overall concensus appears to be either the Spec Ops or Medic kit
If you want evidence of this it can be found at the Total BF2 Forums here
Remove intro demo movies
This will allow you to automatically bypass all intro movies and take you directly into the game.
Assuming you installed in the default location:
Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2\Movies
Create a folder called backup
Move all files into this folder EXCEPT for:
noise.bik
menu.bik
menu_loggedin.bik
Others instructions state to delete the files, but I feel safer moving them to another folder in case they become necessary in the future with a patch.
Run game in 1280 x 1024 resolution
This is a common resolution that people are running that isn’t supported within the in-game menu.
Simply modify your shortcut to the game to include these parameters:
+szx 1280 +szy 1024
So your shortcut should look like this if you installed in the default location:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe” +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

The pull no punches in there story available here. I will start off by saying that I love BF2 but the fact does remain that we have all become frustrated for a product that really wasn’t ready to be released to the public. Let’s hope they learn from this.

Chris, you don’t need to go to the video selection screen with this change. In fact you won’t see it available in there as you found out. But this will already have set your resolution and you can go straight in and play.

I unlocked the spec ops gun on first unlock and have to say apart from slightly more damage i.e. medium instead of low/medium it is not worth it you lose the scope sight and if you are lying down you can’t sight with it. All in all very dissapointing and seems it is 10500 until next unlock I would advise looking else where for a better a gun….

Yeah so following on the unlocks I picked the PK machine gun for the support class and I am very happy. I loved it in DC and it plays well in bf2 aswell. It’s VERY strong and does have good range. Cheers!

i agree – just got the spec ops unlock and so far haven’t been too impressed. seems lame to trade in the laser sighting and accuracy lying down for a bit more wallop.

Great site…Your points for unlocks needs to be updated….1.03 patch greatly reduced points needed to get unlocks…does anyone know where I can get stats about the game for other players…outside of the game. I don’t want to have to enter the game for the stats. Is there a site where you can search for other player stats outside the game ??

Yes I need to update the unlocks and I will do that soon. As far as a site to lookup other player stats. That can be done at a site I list above called bf2s.com. You can also do a comparison of your stats to another player’s on that site as well.

your stats are all wrong, i only have 1674 points and im already a corporal. Also a friend of mine is a Master Gunnery Sargeant and is no where close to 250000 points.

I found another good stats site. It is http://www.formitron.com/ . The interface isn’t as good as the one that you listed but if you hover your mouse over each of the medals, it will give you an idea of what you need to get each medal or move up to the silver or gold version.

As far as i can gather, the second unlock becomes available when you have SF installed too. Once i installed it, i got two unlocks for becoming corporal. Speeds things up a little!

i have the same problem as jonathan but im a rank lower i just got my 3rd unlock, but how do you get the second unlock for a gun i want to upgrade my support gun (the pkm), but i dont have the choice of the second unlock, just the first for all the other classes. You get 2nd unlocks if and only if 1) you have special forces installed and associated with your account 2) you have the first unlock in that line (you need the M95 before you can get the L96A1)

Hey people just thought id post some tips for the noobs as it was hard for me when i first started.
The best guns to unlock first are the pmk for support as this gun has HUGE fire power and will beat most others in a shot out. It says in the instructions that support is for cover and i often see noobs holding down the trigger, Dont do this its pointless and you wont hit anything. only fire three or four shots at once even if your enemy is very close you will kill them faster
The other best guns are the dao for anti tank Which works well at a longer range then you might fist think and that first medic gun because it will increase accuracy at a longer range
Oh and when you are a medic look after your own life first. Dont run in for a revive straight away wait a few seconds for the enemy to leave or you could try kill him yourself. its always better to heal friendlys while they are still alive so make your medkit a prority over your defibrilator. At least in the begining.
Placing med kits around yourself if you are camping will increase your liklyhood of survival if you are sniped or say hit by a tank shell.
If you find you are getting points but no rank up you might be missing a badge.
The hardest badge to get is the knife badge without doubt.
Some tricks for knifing include laying prone next to a dead enemy waiting for a medic to come for a revive ,and knife then both
people in TOW or stinger sites are easy picking for your knife.
Lots of people will go prone when capping flags! Remember this ,prone people are more vulnerable to a knife. Just pretend your trying to revive them. with a knife;p
on road to jalabad in the second mec base at the bottom of the map there is a ring around the flag!
Camp on the roof just out of flag range and when you see or hear bad guys nearby you can almost bet your balls some of them are going to jump into the ring and go prone. This is when you pull your knife and leap off the roof into the ring and stab as many as you can in a row.
This technique works in many other maps.
Anouther good knife camp is on wake island. be a sniper and find a good spot in between the china air base and the flag on the left hand side .you will see trees with dense grass under them. Ive tripped over more then one pointy sniper in these parts.
I will now tell you the legend of the APC sweet spot;o
Many moons ago there was a great sniper who in his infinite wisdom found that he could snipe drivers out of an APC.
I have never pulled this one off but apparently if you shoot an APC on the turret just below the main gun barral you will hit the driver right between the eyes.
You need the big rifle.

The problem is, I haven’t been able to unlock the L96A1 yet and I’ve already unlocked the M95. When will this become available to me? At another rank? Do I need to get a new patch or something? If u have BF2 special forces expansion pack you will always when you got enough points have to go into SF and get just 1 point to get the new rank and unlocks. it will show in game precise when you get the point:)

About the special forces bonus 2 unlocks. I started my profile on a computer with special forces then opend up the same profile at home. This allows me the 2 unlocks with out having to get BF2:SF

I have a problem here. When I look at my stats on BFHQ it shows me ready for promotion, the bar is full with over 23500 points. I also have all the badges necessary. Its been like this for days now, and it won’t promote me. Another thing that’s weird is when I go to BF2s.com it shows my rank as Master Sergeant and shows my next rank as Master Gunnery Sergeant. It skips First Sergeant!! What’s up with that?? I think I’m going to call EA and see if they can help me. Anyone have any ideas??

SgtHalo – I’ve had the same thing a couple of times myself and it’s ridiculous that a server that can keep track of your points can’t recognise when you make the grade for a promotion. But just wait a couple of days and it updates. I’m sure it must have since you posted here.

To my frustration, I find not only that are all of the rankings pages blank, when I return to BFHQ to view my profile, I find that it states that I have not been playing the game at all. I have achieved basic first aid 3 times now, and many other awards once or twice, and I am yet to find any acknowledgement of this in my profile page.
Could anyone comment on this? Has this problem occurred before? Am I just unlucky?

Lakey I have had this problem as well. At first I thought I had to disconnect from the game so my stats would update, but they remained blank. Very irritating!

Does anyone know how to change the image of the soldier picture on the back ground in the BFHQ menu screen. Mine always displays the black support soldier. I just want to have the sniper or the Spec Ops soldier image to stay there.

I’m getting points each time I play, but it’s not updating my bfhq page. It just stays the same score. Can ANYONE please tell me if I need to do anything for my points I get in a game to be added to those in my profile!? I’ve lost so many medals already, it’s getting quite depressing.

I’m having the problem with stats not updating- started a new game to take advantage of the Special Forces unlocks that I’ve got from the booster pack, but after a weekend of playing my stats for my new avatar are all still at zero, both in the game and at bf2s.com.
Anyone know anything about this?

yeah same problem here i`m playing but my BFHQ shows 0:00:00 and Bf2s.com too shows that i`m on zero have any ideas?

Regarding the lost connection problem, I was having this recently and found out it was my firewall (free version of zonealarm). It had updated itself, but for some reason wasn’t allowing all BF traffic through. I gave the program full access and its been fine since

yeah, I’m having the same problem. I play a game, get points, then I check BFHQ and Im stuck at the same number I was before. It doesnt update my play time or play date either. Ive looked on the forums and it says nothing. Help!

hey guys quick question im a master seargent with 45000 points i have all of the ulocks except 3rd engineer and 3rd anti tank i have all the badges and meet the requirments for first seargent why cant i promote? also how the hell did i get so many unlocks? Close friend M3cury is only 10000 points behind me and he literally has half as many unlocks as i do?

just a quick note to all the fellow newbies playing that don’t get their scores updated… your single player scores don’t count. you have to play on a ranked server, in case, like me when I stared, you didn’t already know that

Guys, check to make sure all of your punkbuster filesa are updated, go to the pb website and go to downloads and follow the directiions, and if you have vista, chang you acsess level to ADMINASTRATOR you should be able to do it in computer? my computer on your computer!!!!

i have more than 70 pistol kills but i still have a basic pistol badge and can’t get a veteran badge….i also can’t get medals or ribbons…can anyone help me ???

i got the rank of private 1st class but it went away right after i exited the game i do not know why that happens but does anybody have an answer why it does happen
that is exactly what happened to me. and when i go on bfhq there is no data recorded of me playing. aghhhh its annoying man. you play for hours for nothing!!
