my favorite season

January 1st, 1990 Posted in Poetry

summer has ended
and once again
it is time to set myself up for the fall.
it happens so expectedly
as i make sure that every piece
of this elaborate puzzle
falls firmly into place.
from the moments of euphoria
to the screams of silence
that disallow my mind to rest.
this familiar climate,
so dark
so cold,
and i always awake to
the sounds of the birds singing songs of sorrow
it won’t last much longer,
i will grow much stronger
and the leaves on the trees
will once again grow
