insomnia

January 1, 1990

it’s late again
deep into night
and i can’t go to sleep

my eyes shut tight
lock out the bright
but help to no avail

i watch the digital numbers spin
on the clock beside my bed
no matter how damn hard i try
the thoughts won’t leave my head.

ideas spark,
things forgotten,
past events,
future dreams,
are the fuel for my insomnia…
